Decomposition Reactions

In a decomposition reaction, one compound splits apart into two (or more) pieces. These pieces can be elements or simpler compounds. In decomposition reactions there is always only one substance on the reactant side. You can write a decomposition reaction in a general form like this:

AB --> A + B
